In Exercise of the Power conferred by the proviso to article 309 of the Constitution of India, the Governor is pleased to hereby to make the following rules regulation recruitment to different categories of Group D Posts in the Secretariat, Directories and other offices under the rule making power of the Government of West Bengal.
Application :
These rules shall apply to the Recruitment of the different categories Group D Posts ( Peon, Orderly Peon, Night Guard, Darwan, Farash) or such other nomenclature of posts in the pay band 1 with Grade Pay of Rs.1700/.
Age limit :
The age limit of the candidates shall not be less than 18 years and more than 37 years as on 1st day of January of the year of publication of Advertisement. Provided that the upper age limit shall be relaxaable by 5 years for the candidates belonging to the categories of scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) of West Bengal and by 3 Years for the candidates belonging to the categories of Other Backward Classes (OBC) of West Bengal. Provided further that the upper age limit shall be 45 years for Person with Physically Disabilities (PWD) specified under the law for time being in force. Ex-serviceman candidates upper age limit is applicable as per Government rules.
Educational Qualification :
The candidates applying for different categories of Group D Posts shall have Class VIII (8th) Pass certificate from any recognized school or any recognized Madrasah or any other recognized equivalent Institution.

The Selection Board is known as "The West Bengal Group D Recruitment Board" 2016 - 2017. which will function as an attached office of- Personnel & Administration Reforms Department, Government of West Bengal (State Secretariat, Nabanna, 7th Floor, 325, Sarat Chatterjee Road, Howrah-711102). The Recruitment Board has started functioning from 1st January, 2016 with camp offices at Nabbana (in P & AR Department and Nagarayan Bhawan in Salt lake, pending operationalization of its permanent office utility building in Action Area II, New Town, Kolkata- 700156. The Board is expected to be functional in its new location by March, 2016. The Board has already started its recruitment process. In order to initiative the possess of recruitment, The Board has started assessing the vacant sanctioned Group D Posts of various Department of the State Government for filling up of the same. The board is also inviting expression of interested from reputed and bonafied organization / institution / firms for assisting the Board in the matter of recruitment Process, which will be notified in Newspaper as well as in the website of P & AR Department of state Government. The Board Shall comprise of -
- Chairperson (Dr. Atanu Kumar Raha) - The Board Head of Department in a Serving or Retired IAS Officer in the Rank of the Additional Chief Secretary or The Principal Secretary of The Government of WB.
- Other Board Member (Sri Asoke K Roy) - 5 others Members of Serving or Retired Government officer in the Rank of Special Secretary or the Joint Secretary to the Govt of West Bengal.
- Secretary of Board - 1 Post of Deputy Secretary of State Government.
